I managed to get to the driving range last night and tried out a different grip on the clubs. It was one where you lock the little finger of the right hand into the top two fingers of the left hand. I think it will take a bit of time to get it right but eventually after balls flying dangerously about, I decided to switch back to normal.
Thankfully I can still hit the ball about 200 yards and resonably straight. This was the last practice session before my first game on Monday 9th July. I hope it's not waterlogged as it could be some time before I can go again. I took my daughter Asha along and she seems to be interested in having a go. Can I see another fledgling golfer??
Any tips please.
cheers
Mike

Best tip I ever got was for chipping. You want both feet angled 30-45 degrees towards the target, so sort of like

with the slashes as your feet and the period the ball. Ball is sort of opposite your right toes then, more or less. This helps you hit down on your chips, which of course makes the ball pop up into the air. With a pitching wedge make a small backswing, and hit down crisply. Ball should pop up and roll nicely on the green. Idea is if it flies 10 feet it'll roll another 10 feet, but you'll see how it works if you practice.
Then you can vary the clubs, a 7 iron will fly 20% and roll 80% for example. But the main thing is to hit down crisply, and make sure you watch the club hit the ball. This will ensure you don't pick your head up and mis-hit it.
Doesn't work for everyone though but I like it. Best of luck.
