About...

Mike Price

Mike Price is 36 years old and has finally succumbed to the golfing bug. This blog hopes to show how anyone can take up golf and enjoy the benefits it will bring to your life. He will be helped by his father Mike Price who has been playing for over 35 years. His aim was not to embarrass himself when he played his first round of golf. Mike has now played his first game of golf and has a new goal of improving his putting and getting below 90 on the score card.

August 2007 Archives

Sorry for delay in updating site

Posted by Mike Price on August 30, 2007 8:16 PM

I have just returned from a great break away and now will be having an extended break as well. On Monday I have a knee operation which will keep me out of action for two weeks maybe more. So I will try and keep up with everything. Any tips and hints will still be useful so please keep helping.

Thanks

Mike

Pennington Flash 9th August 2007

Posted by Mike Price on August 10, 2007 6:54 AM

The object of playing here was to try and improve my game. My playing partner Tony Hall did improve. Pennigton Flash is a good place to learn how to improve your game. It is a challenging course and quite flat. Water flows through the course and most of the 9 holes have some water boundry.

Five of the holes cross water and this makes it a great course to actually think and try to place your shots. All of the holes have a challenge and this is much better practice than a driving range.

We started off quite good and the first hole was ok. 2nd and Third holes where reasonably easy and then we hit a problem, we had caught up with a three ball and by crickey were they slow. Not just in walking but in choosing clubs, playing shots and all aspects. Over the next six holes they probably added an hour to the round.

Highlights of the day were Tony driving over 245 yards from tee to green, then spoiling an eagle with a three putt to par. I managed to par my first hole and I nearly putted in from the rough over 35 yards away only to see the ball jump the hole.

Below are some videos of me during the evening. Any help with swings or technique is needed as you will see. Enjoy the outtake, I could have left it out, but it shows that golf can be fun too.

A Practice swing, completely different to a real swing watch

Teeing off on the 2nd at Pennington. Watch me spin around after hitting the ball

Teeing off on the 5th hole, Much better????

Our scorecard for the evenning. As you can see Tony did very well.

Here I show you how not to do it- enter the outtake

Practice takes over

Posted by Mike Price on August 7, 2007 11:03 AM

After my recent round of golf with Tony Hall, I have been putting practice and getting things right a priority. I have noticed that I have a tendancy to hit the ball better when I don't analyze the shot. If I think the shot through and pick a spot to get to, I either draw the shot or slice it. I need to work on my footwork, my grip and my technique.
As with all things you can be over self critical and I rely on others to help point out my faults. Hopefully I will put a new video up in the next day or so to show my hopefully improved stance and technique. Please be critical as it will not offend me, only help me.

Thanks

Mike

I played a geese and a frog at Haigh Hall

Posted by Mike Price on August 2, 2007 8:22 AM

I managed to get a new partner to play Haigh Hall with me. Tony Hall from work agreed ( how stupid of him) to play a round. We met in the car park and off we went. Never playing this course
before I was quite nervous, also I was worried we would hold some other golfers up. Thankfully I was worrying in haste, my first shot was good and soared down the fairway.

Tony gets ready to play off

Tony who hasn't played for quite some time managed to shake of the rust and play a good drive. We managed to play OK on most holes but to be honest we where just finding our feet and getting used to the course. As we started late we knew we would only get in a partial round but we drove on with some unusual hazards. On the fifth the green was impeded by geese, not just them but their droppings. They waddled off eventually and made their way over to the sixth hole. I joked that I would hit one of them and I am sorry to say that I did, but only after the ball had landed from the drive and it glanced it on the bounce, shame really as I might have got another ten yards.

Geese form a barrier on the fairway

Another hazard with playing late is frogs, I managed to notice one just by my ball and it managed to have a lucky escape, other wise it might have been raining frogs and balls.

We played till the dark arrived and managed to play 15 holes in just over two and a half hours.

Twilght arrives

Score card below. Reasonably happy with mine, but I wish I had of played better.
