About...

Mike Price

Mike Price is 36 years old and has finally succumbed to the golfing bug. This blog hopes to show how anyone can take up golf and enjoy the benefits it will bring to your life. He will be helped by his father Mike Price who has been playing for over 35 years. His aim was not to embarrass himself when he played his first round of golf. Mike has now played his first game of golf and has a new goal of improving his putting and getting below 90 on the score card.

Practice takes over

Posted by Mike Price on August 7, 2007 11:03 AM |

After my recent round of golf with Tony Hall, I have been putting practice and getting things right a priority. I have noticed that I have a tendancy to hit the ball better when I don't analyze the shot. If I think the shot through and pick a spot to get to, I either draw the shot or slice it. I need to work on my footwork, my grip and my technique.
As with all things you can be over self critical and I rely on others to help point out my faults. Hopefully I will put a new video up in the next day or so to show my hopefully improved stance and technique. Please be critical as it will not offend me, only help me.

Thanks

Mike

Helpful (?) comments on golf swing:

Establish a full wrist hinge (90 degree angle between club and left arm) halfway through backswing (i.e. quarter to the hour).
At start of downswing, move weight towards the target, maintain wrist hinge as long as possible and point right knee towards target as right elbow comes down (this will turn your hips towards the target, add zip to the ball and prevent you from falling back). Should end with weight on left leg supported by toe of right foot. Try above in slow motion until you can do it with balance and aggression. Stick at it, it will work for you - you have good rhythm. If you practice in long grass you can measure improvement by the sound of the clubhead zipping through the grass.
Power comes from the wrist hinge (i.e. hands)and body turn, not from the arms or shoulders (they must be totally relaxed).

Cheers and good luck,

John

Thanks for the tips John, I will try it out in the back garden over teh next few days. I feel things are starting to come together now and hopefully if I can fit in more rounds of golf.

Thanks a lot

Mike
