About...

Mike Price

Mike Price is 36 years old and has finally succumbed to the golfing bug. This blog hopes to show how anyone can take up golf and enjoy the benefits it will bring to your life. He will be helped by his father Mike Price who has been playing for over 35 years. His aim was not to embarrass himself when he played his first round of golf. Mike has now played his first game of golf and has a new goal of improving his putting and getting below 90 on the score card.

Back and ready to go!

My knee seems to be fine and as soon as I was cleared by the doctor I quickly arranged a game with my Dad. We went to Kirkby golf course and thankfully I had no reaction to playing. My knee seemed to be fine (though it ached the next day, but then so did other parts) and some of the swelling had subsided.
I have been practising with a new grip and it should help me to stabilise the shots I play, I know it will take time to break it in although in the long run I feel this will be worth it.

This time around I think I was subconsciously worried about my knee and for the first nine holes at least I was tentative in my playing. Thankfully Dad eventually stepped in and changed the stance I was using. He got me to line my left foot up with the tee and widen my right foot. It made a huge difference. I even out drove him on one hole and most of my shots from then on soared and went reasonably straight. I managed a 170 yard shot off a 7 iron and that made me happy as I repeated the feat(just to prove it wasn't a fluke). I lost two balls in very bad rough, but managed to find six. My putting eventually improved and for the last four holes I two putted on each,

Dad managed a 78 without his handicap and I managed 102 without my handicap. It may seem a poor score to most people, but to me it is great. It means that I can now continue to play and hopefully improve. I can see where I am going wrong and will endeavour to correct my problems.

Any tips or hints please leave a comment.

cheers

Mike

Hi Mike
Having a knee might be a good thing it was for me it stopped me playing football at a low level and allowed me to take up golf so every cloud as a silver lining. So Carry on regardless and i am watching your dads scores as well.

Thanks for that Alan, I have needed the op since playing in a charity game over ten years ago where I was badly tackled by two defenders. That ended my football career.
I have since sulked for ten years and now hopefully will make a sporting comeback at golf.
Dad's scores are good, but I think he could be better. He just needs to play more than once a week. ( hint hint)

Cheers

Mike
